Drew Claxton, the council’s longest serving Democrat, is seeking her third, four-year term. An economist by profession, Claxton is the co-chair the City’s CLEAN initiative which has worked to combat litter in the city through a combination of new enforcement measures, public education, and enhanced city services. Recently, Claxton led the effort to push legislation that tacks fines on negligent property owner’s tax bills for failing to clean up litter on private property. With members of the CLEAN initiative, she also helped implement a new, more aggressive, city-wide street sweeping program.

“Year after year we heard residents complain that the city wasn’t doing enough to combat litter and enhance our quality of life,” said Claxton. “One of the first things we have done since taking majority control of the common council was implement strategies to finally combat litter in our city. We have a long way to go, but it’s now a priority and we’re making significant progress.”
